Cheddar Walnut Bread

This easy-to-make bread is a year round favourite and is great to serve during the holidays.

Ingredients

2 cups 500 mL All Purpose Flour
2/3 cup 175 mL Sugar
1 tbsp 15 mL Baking Powder
3/4 tsp 4 mL Salt
1 1 Egg, beaten
1 cup 250 mL Milk
1 cup 250 mL GAY LEA - Unsalted Butter, melted
1 1/2 cups 375 mL BLACK RIVER - Old Cheddar
BLACK RIVER - Old Cheddar, additional to garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (180°C). In a mixing bowl, stir together salt, flour, sugar and baking powder.
  2. In another bowl, combine milk, beaten egg and melted butter. Add to flour mixture and stir just until moistened.
  3. Fold in Old Cheddar and toasted walnut pieces. Turn butter into buttered 9″x5″x3″ (2L) loaf pan or 3 (2 cup/500mL) mini loaf pans.
  4. Bake for 45 to 50 minutes or until done. Sprinkle with Old Cheddar. Cool 10 minutes in pan; turn out and cool completely
  5. Additional Old Cheddar, to garnish.
